Ever stumble on a "New" artist, only to find out you have been listening to their music for years without knowing it?
Recently I stumbled on the solo work on Chris Shiflett, the name sounded familiar (Hell he even looked a little familiar), but I didn't think too much of it, so I just started listening to his 2017 album of the same name, 'West Coast Town'. I really enjoyed it.
I noticed a lot of rock vibes, kind of an American Aquarium style country/rock. Remembering how familiar his name sounded led me to do a little research... Well, turns out I have been listening to his guitar work for DECADES.
Chris has been a member of the Foo Fighters since 1999, yes, that Foo Fighters! He was a member of both No Use For a Name (Who's 'More Betterness' album is the best album name ever), and my favorite cover band ever; Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
In a way I am a bit embarrassed to have not realized it earlier, but at the same time I am kind of glad I enjoyed the music before I realized who he was. The music stands on it's own well, which is very important for any solo project of any band member.
