I first came upon Jenny Tolman when I heard her single "Stripper For A Week", I added her to my follow list, and have been keeping track of her since. Last week she debuted her new song "Something to Complain About", I happened to hear it while shuffling new music; the voice sounded familiar, but when I heard the lyrics I knew exactly who it was.
"Stripper For a Week" caught my attention because it was funny, but I knew there was more to her than that. I started digging into what she had out there for music so far and was impressed with her cover of Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud", but I was blown away by her song "Elizabeth"; a slow, meaningful ode to her grandmother.
Needless to say, I have been excited to hear more from her, and her new single "Something to Complain About" delivers pretty much what I had hoped for; a meaningful song with a little humor in the mix. You would not be the only one thinking it if you felt a bit of a Kacey Musgraves vibe here, and that's a great thing in my book.
The first bit of the song is pretty tongue-in-cheek and had me chuckling, but soon the song gets a bit more serious and basically breaks itself down to being happy with what you have, and finding joy in your life. The video is pretty cute, and I commend her for including fans in this, it's a great way to make them feel included in the process.
I look forward to more from Jenny, I have been impressed with her music and writing so far, and I can't wait to see the rest.
