If you’d asked me a couple months ago, I’d have told you September was looking a little thin for new releases, but several albums where recently announced, including some long-awaited projects from some big names.
Soak in September, because October is shaping up to be another great month for new music as well!
James Carothers – ‘Still Country. Still King: A Tribute to George Jones’ : 9/7/18
I have REALLY been looking forward to this album since I first got wind that it might happen. James is as close to the Jones family as it gets and he is a great classic style singer. This is the perfect project for a singer of his caliber, and fits nicely between his own projects, sure to bring his name into crowds who’ve never heard it before. I’ve heard all the pre-release songs, and several older covers he’s done…. If you like George, you will love this.
Malcolm Holcombe ‘Come Hell or High Water’ : 9/14/18
Let’s face it, Malcolm Holcombe is a bit of an acquired tasted; I think few have lusted over the quality of his vocals, but what he lacks in fluttering tones, he more than makes up for with his pen and distinct style. I’ve been a fan for several years and he just keeps pumping out great content, this record looks to be more of the same. The 3 songs I have heard are great, and there is A LOT of Iris DeMent on this album, who’s beautiful voice expertly compliments his deep growl.
Band of Heathens ‘A Message from The People Revisited’ : 9/14/18
This is a pretty cool project; the boys from Austin have reimagined the classic Ray Charles album ‘A Message from the People’, doing great justice to both the original artist as well as the message. I love an album with a theme, I love quality covers, and I’m a fan of BOH… This seems like a bullseye.
Willie Nelson ‘My Way’ : 9/14/18
Willie sings Frank Sinatra, this is going to be another can’t miss! Seems Willie has a new album out yearly, and this will make two for this year, but don’t let that sully your impression of him in his old age; he is still putting out quality music, and I expect this to be no different. I’m so excited for this one that I have forced myself to only listen to one song from it before release, I want to hear it all at once.
Kristina Murray ‘Southern Ambrosia’ : 9/21/18
